Darling in the Franxx - Was it a Sex Thing?

Somewhat surprisingly, I saw this question pop up from a few people who were worrying their dirty minds were leading them astray.

The answer is yes, by the way. It was totally about sex.

Evey so often, and by that I mean quite often, a studio goes and makes an anime that really goes and tackles all those things we hate about puberty. Adults being the worst. Realizing your body is changing.

The first time a girl hugged you, and you noticed how soft her breasts felt.

Darling in the Franxx is that show this season and it's not being remotely subtle about it. The boring monologue about birds that mate for life was kind of a big clue. The doggy style cockpit just slaps you in the face with it.

The whole male-female pilot pairs is about relationships. It's about growing closer to the opposite sex. Your first love. Your first girlfriend and all that stuff. It's why it's so important for the pairs to get along.

But really, all those things are a metaphor for sex and sexual chemistry.

This episode was Hiro, the protagonist, being unable to get his dick hard for Ichigo, the blue girl, because he's just not into her. He can only get hard for Oni girl.

Naturally, this is a huge fear teenagers (and people of other ages but especially teenagers) have. What if the person I like is not into me? What if I'm not attractive enough?

It was a very humiliating experience for Ichigo.

It was also painful, if hilarious, to watch due to how blatant it is.
