Asterisk 11-12 - Mid-Season Finales are the Devil's Work

Apologies. I wanted to have this up much earlier, but Christmas is a busy time for the year.

Plus, there was book stuff to do; a book which, by the way, is now up on Amazon

Now that the shameless advertising is done, let's get down to business.

Rakudai 9-10 - The Student Council Strikes Back!

Remember how I said it was funny the Student Council weren't such a big deal in this anime?

Turns out, I was not quite right.

Asterisk 9-10 - Rise of the Machines!

Once again, I'm way overdue with this (I've been working on my new book. It's awesome. Check my Amazon Profile for Info), so I'm doing it two at a time.

Asterisk 08 - Team-Up!

The Three Faces of Jealousy
Last episode Kirin and Saya became a team.

Let's see how that goes.

Asterisk 06-07 Kirin Time

This is long overdue. Been busy. Doing two episodes at once to catch up.

By the way, Digimon Tri is out. You can expect a post on that coming soon... for a certain value of "soon".

Magi - Everything Wrong with Kou's Civil War

Oh, it's on, now!
This post has been due for a long time.

Let it be known, despite the title I do have some good things to say about this arc. Sorta.

Asterisk 05

Funny thing, I wrote this last Sunday. I just kept forgetting to upload it.

Anyway, since I did separate posts last time, I'll keep on doing it from now on!

Asterisk 04 – The Problem with Sudden Commitment

Actually not a bad guy
First solo Asterisk post! Not through its own merit but rather because it got left behind.

Rakudai 04 - All The Good!

For the first time I am going to do a separate post for each of these two anime.

The latest episode of Rakudai deserves it. That's all there is to it.

The Problem with Contrast - Rakudai & Asterisk Episode 03

Absolutely Flawless
For a moment I actually contemplated doing separate posts for last week's episodes. Then I realized it wasn't the time. Not just yet.

Today's topic, Relationships!

Rakudai 02 - Asterisk 02

We're Back!
Last time I said I would only be following one of these anime. I have since changed my mind. I liked the second episode of Asterisk and it is bound to be interesting to compare how the two light novel adaptations diverge after their similar start.

In time, I might even have to do different posts for each, but for now I want to do it like this.

Also, I know this is post is late. Sorry. Shit happened. That's all I'll say about it.

Now let's do this thing.

Formula Problems?

Sometimes we jokingly say it's all the same shit.

Other times, well, it's a bit truer than we'd like. Pic, oh so related.

Shokugeki no Souma - Cursing your Sudden but Inevitable Betrayal!

We have a saying in Spanish.

Raise crows and they will peck your eyes out.

Recent manga events may be surprising, but in hindsight they really shouldn't be.

Dragon Ball Super 6-10

Stop it Yamcha. It's just sad now.
It's that Sunday again and you all know what it means.

It's Dragon Ball Super Time!

Nisekoi: Fake Love, True Problems

Nisekoi is not the first romantic comedy to run in Shounen Jump.

However, it does stick out due to how self-aware it is. It shamelessly grabs a bunch of romantic harem comedy tropes and plays them completely straight.

Sadly, that's also the manga's biggest weakness.

Shokugeki no Souma: Pressure for Success and Fear of Failure

Fabulous!
Out of all the new manga which have come out of Shounen Jump in recent years, Shokugeki no Souma is my current favorite. I am usually more of a battle manga guy, but this cooking manga has become the one I most look forward to every week.

There are plenty of reasons for it.

Souma is a damn good protagonist. The rest of the cast is colorful enough and the author manages to do just enough to keep them relevant. The arcs are all interesting in their own ways. Then, of course, there is the theme driving the overall narrative.

Because if any Jump manga does justice to the Elite vs Commoner dynamic, it's this one.

Some Stats

Dragon Ball Super will reach Ep. 5 soon (How quickly time flies), so the next post should be up by Sunday.

In the meantime, here are some blog stats. I have always wanted to make one of these posts.

Spotlight: Code Geass – Akito the Exiled

Unless you’re young enough to make me feel really old, you have probably heard of Code Geass. If you’re lucky, you got to rage at being forced to wait for a year to see the conclusion of the epic cliffhanger ending of the first season.

We are not going to talk about that anime. Not today.

This time it's all about Akito the Exiled!

Dragon Ball Super - A look back, a glimpse forward

Provided you haven’t been living under a rock, you should, by now, know about the announcement of Dragon Ball Super, a new Dragon Ball anime.

My expectations?

Mixed.

Aldnoah.Zero - The Finale

True to my predictions, the finale disappointed in several levels.

Let’s take a look at them, shall we?

Aldnoah.Zero and the Loss of Tension

The Journey Ends
The last episode of Aldnoah.Zero is only hours away. Thus, it is prudent to ask how do you lose the tension for a finale?

By messing up the first one.

When the Bad Guy has a Point AKA Hakuryuu did Nothing Wrong

What do you mean he's not the hero of the story?

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic is a wonderful Manga, but like any manga it has weaknesses. The main one being the accidental subversion of the themes it holds up.

By that, I mean Hakuryuu and Judal make more sense than anyone else in the manga, but let’s take this from the beginning.

Sorry!

Not the Face!

It has been more than two months since my last update. For that I have to apologize.

There are several reasons really. The holiday season was one. Additionally, my interest in Log Horizon and Shingeki no Bahamut dropped to the point I will no longer review the remaining episodes.

It says a lot the episode I liked the most from Log Horizon was the one featuring an entirely different cast.

Though to be fair, it’s hard to beat a guy playing a ninja turtle frog.

There is also this novel length story I was writing (First, 50k Draft is done. Just needs Revising. Lots of revising).

Mostly though, it was lack of time.

I will make an effort to post with greater frequency in the future.
